I would like to thank everyone who participated in our OLTA Singles and Doubles Spring League. The competition was fierce and results were very close. Here are your Spring winners:

OLTA’s tennis session for tomorrow (Sunday, 5/6) will be at Samuell-Grand Tennis Center.

Texas Cup 2012

This year’s Texas Cup (between Dallas, Houston and Austin) will be played on Saturday, June 2 through Sunday, June 3 at LB Houston Tennis Center in Dallas.

The festivities start off Friday night (June 1), from 7 PM to 9 PM, at Woody’s Sports and Video Bar. Please try to attend this gathering at Woody’s as they are a great supporter of OLTA.

Saturday Texas Cup play at LB Houston starts at 8 AM sharp the next day. The banquet will be Saturday evening. There will be no general OLTA sessions on Sunday, June 3 as Texas Cup will have the courts.

We are working on a contract for our host hotel and banquet facility; it will most likely be the Aloft Hotel in Irving. More specific information will be forthcoming on this in the near future.

All OLTA Texas Cup participants will be required to buy a team t-shirt. The prices are $15/$5/$10 for corresponding $45/full-year/half-year membership levels. The money raised from t-shirt sales will go into OLTA’s general fund. The t-shirts are available now; please see President Sance for your t-shirt today.

If you know any former members of OLTA, please let them know about this event coming up. We will send emails to those we have contact information for, but contact information for a lot of former members is not available.

Please remember – you must be a paid member of OLTA to be eligible to participate in Texas Cup.

Rules and initial singles and doubles ladders have been posted on the OLTA website. The link can be seen on the right under “Activities” after you log in.

OLTA Mentors

We are looking for OLTA mentors. If you would like to volunteer to be a mentor for a new OLTA member, please comment on the post on Facebook or email president@oltadallas.org.

This will go a long ways to helping our newest members learn the OLTA ropes.

OLTA Drill Session: Sunday, 4/29/12

Sunday, April 29th, there will be an OLTA drill session at LB Houston. Reply to the post on Facebook or email president@oltadallas.org with what kind of drills you are interested in doing. Bring any old balls you have to contribute to the OLTA drill baskets since the balls from last year may be a little flat by now.

Friends of Tennis – smashing success!

Thanks to all that visited OLTA last night at Woody’s, and came out for some great weather at LB Houston today. We had over 10 courts enjoying the sunshine, mild temperatures and batting the ball around.

The pizza was perfect, lots of people came away with LOTS of fun prizes, and our President modeled the OLTA club t-shirt. The shirt is available for $5 (when you pay for a year membership), $10 (when you pay for a 1/2 year membership) or $15 (when you pay for at the $45 membership level).

Don’t forget: the first regular season session is this Tuesday, starting at 6 PM at LB Houston. The week concludes with another evening session on Friday, then bright and early at 9 AM on Sunday is general play.

OLTA Leagues

This year, OLTA will offer singles and doubles leagues. The format will be round-robin based on skill levels. Cost (for OLTA members only) is $12 for singles, $10 per person for doubles. The top 2 players from each level will be awarded a prize.

The league schedule is based on the number of players that sign up. Deadline for registration is Tuesday, March 13. Singles play begins on Sunday, March 18. Doubles play starts on Friday, March 23 (these days have been moved out a week since the original post).

2012 Season Begins on February 26th

The 2012 season of the OLTA will begin February 26, 2012 at LB Houston Tennis Center starting at 9:00am. This will be the 33rd season for the club!

The OLTA season runs from March to November. The club meets three times a week: Sunday mornings, Tuesday evenings and Friday evenings at LB Houston Tennis Center. The club offers numerous social events throughout the year including singles and doubles leagues, pool parties, bowling, special tennis events and an end of the year holiday party.

OLTA participates each year in the Texas Cup, a competition between the tennis clubs from Houston, Austin and Dallas. This year, OLTA hosts the Texas Cup in Dallas. 24 players from each of the clubs in Houston and Austin will be here this spring. We will also host our annual tournament October 5-7 where over 100 players from the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Association attend. This tournament serves as a fundraiser for a local charity.
